The Art of Making Dentures

A Conversation with Scott Huffstetler of Eastside Dental Services

Have you seen the TV program Undercover Boss? It’s where a CEO disguises himself as an employee in his own company to see what really occurs on the front lines of his business. A version of that occurs everyday at Eastside Dental Service in Tucson, but there’s nothing undercover about it! Scott Huffstetler, the owner of Eastside Dental Service, works in the lab creating removable dentures and partials, side by side with his employees, every single day. As a highly trained Certified Dental Technician, Scott is very much hands-on in his own company.

If you have a conversation with Mr. Huffstetler, you will immediately learn three things. He truly values people, he is exceptional at what he does, and certified dental technicians are more artists than anything else. All the work done at Eastside Dental Services is done by hand. Each set of dentures is expertly designed and created to fit a specific patient. No assembly line mentality here. The technicians are artists creating beautiful products.

Scott Huffstetler of Eastside Dental Services

Eastside Dental Services employs 12 certified dental technicians and serves as many as 90 dentists in the Tucson area. If you ask Scott what makes Eastside Dental different from other labs, he will tell you it is the exceptional staff. Many of the technicians have operated labs of their own but now work together at Eastside Dental. Mr. Huffstetler provides his employees with excellent benefits and good salaries which makes for very happy employees–and happy employees do excellent work. All of the technicians, including Scott himself, participate in continuing educational opportunities so that they are always on the cutting edge of dental technology and trends.

Dr. Jeff Martin and Mr. Scott Huffstetler have known each other for 35 years. Scott said they probably met at a dental association event back in 1978. Eastside Dental Service has provided Martin Taylor Dentistry with their custom designed dentures and partials for many, many years. Scott says he truly has enjoyed working with Dr. Martin. He describes Dr. Martin as a rare dentist who is very responsive to the lab and always makes himself available for questions. The partnership of these two fine men and their reliable companies have made a solid contribution to the  Tucson community  for many years … and many more years to come.
