Moving to a New Location in 2018!

Have you ever moved? It can be exciting, stressful, scary, exhilarating, exhausting, and invigorating, all at once! Moving a dental practice can be all of those things with some added challenges. In our next two articles we will be telling you all about the plan to move our practice to a new location in 2018.

A Delightful Problem

A few years ago we became aware of a delightful problem. Martin Taylor Dentistry was bursting at the seams! Dr. Jeff Martin first opened the doors to our present location on East 5th Street in 1978. But in the almost 40 years since that grand opening, not only did his son-in-law Dr. William Taylor join the practice but many new patients have joined our dental family. Additional staff was hired and our numbers have just continued to grow.

What We Want to Accomplish

Simply put we need more space. Currently our office has 6 chairs available, three for the hygienists and three for the doctors. Those chairs are carefully scheduled, but just one or two emergency visits in a day can throw things off. We also didn’t want to have to continue scheduling some procedures weeks in advance simply because we lacked the space to accommodate them. Plus no matter how well we all get along, having a staff of 12 people trying to work in a 2000 square foot office can be a challenge.

Some of the other criteria we needed to consider when looking for a new location was not only to double our office space but also to significantly increase the size and accessibility of our parking. Patient parking has always been a bit of a challenge in our current location.

Another factor we considered was to stay within a 3 mile radius of our present location so as not to inconvenience our current patients.

We realized we could truly improve the overall experience of our patients if we could get a bit more elbow room, so to speak.

Beginning  the Search

Initially, Dr. Martin and Dr. Taylor went out looking for property by themselves . They knew they wanted to increase the office space, increase parking availability and stay within a 3 mile radius. They decided they would lease if necessary, but preferred to own their new facility. With all the criteria they needed to address, they soon discovered they needed a realtor’s help. Remarkably they discovered there are realtors that specialize in finding properties just for dentists. Once they handed the task of finding appropriate properties into the capable hands of one of these specialized realtors, the search process became much more productive.

Eureka!

With the help of the realtor they were able to find the perfect office space! The new office more than doubles our current space and is in a prime Tucson location! And the parking lot is expansive! Not only that, the doctors were able to buy the property instead of having to continue to lease. But as you can imagine, turning an office space into one that will support all the technical and specialized needs of a dental office takes some doing. In many ways, our work had just begun!

More to Come!

Watch for our next article due out in December to learn more about how we have been getting our new location ready for our move scheduled for February-March of 2018!
