On Track Helping Kids in Need
No child should have to memorize his multiplication tables while in horrific pain. Yet that is exactly what 9-year-old Ben was trying to do. His teeth always seemed to hurt but the pain suddenly got so bad he could barely hold back the tears. But since 9-year-old boys would do anything before crying in front of the whole class, Ben asked to go to the nurse’s office. Thank goodness the nurse at Ben’s school knew about the Tucson dental program known as Grayline!
Eligibility for TUSD Grayline Program
The Grayline Program offers free dental care to underprivileged students in the Tucson Unified School District who are ineligible for other dental programs and who have no dental insurance are eligible. Through Grayline, students in kindergarten through the twelfth grade are provided urgent dental care by volunteer dentists and dental hygienists. After being referred to the program Ben was soon in the dental chair of Dr. William Taylor. Dr. Taylor and Dr. Jeff Martin, two of Tucson’s finest dentists, volunteer their time and incredible skill to serving kids just like Ben. Along with their regular dental practice, Drs. Taylor and Martin treat about one student a week through the Grayline Program. For the many years they have been involved with Grayline, hundreds of children have had their urgent dental needs met by these fine dentists.
Urgent Dental Care Needed
In Ben’s case, the initial urgent dental care needed was extensive. According to Dr. Taylor Ben’s condition is quite typical of the children they see through the Grayline Program. Many years of poor dental hygiene along with having never stepped into a dental office had left Ben with many very large cavities and a horrible swollen abscess. To address the problems that were causing him such excruciating pain, Dr. Taylor performed root canals and then provided Ben with the necessary implants and crowns.
Ben and his mom were beyond pleased with the results. Throughout the needed procedures and follow up visits, they were delighted not only with Dr. Taylor’s amazing skill, but also with the courteous and professional way they were treated by the entire staff at Martin Taylor Dentistry. Along with the urgent dental care provided, Ben received a full teeth-cleaning and his mom was given up-to-date information and education on how to help Ben and the rest of the family maintain good dental health.
Participation in this Tucson dental program at Grayline is just another way two of Tucson’s finest dentists, Dr. Jeff Martin and Dr. William Taylor, volunteer their skill, knowledge, and abilities to the Tucson community. Although they have a well established dental practice with hundreds of loyal patients, they always find ways to participate in programs that help and treat those in the community who are in need.
